Taking Care of the Household

Being ready means welcoming others, caring faithfully for our neighbors, and using the authority entrusted to us with humility and love.

In Matthew 24:44–51, Jesus describes a servant whose responsibility is to provide for the household. His faithfulness becomes visible in how he treats the people entrusted to his care.

Beginning with a bag of Halloween candy waiting by the door, this message explores readiness, remembrance, grace, and servant leadership. As we remember those who have gone before us, we ask how to live faithfully today—and what qualities to seek in the leaders we choose.

Death is real, but it does not get the last word. Our hope in the God who raised Jesus calls us to care for the living.

Three questions to consider:

  1. What would being ready look like in your ordinary responsibilities this week?

  2. Who needs care, provision, encouragement, or protection that you can help provide?

  3. How can you apply the same standards of care and accountability to the leaders you choose and to your own leadership?
